The discussion surrounding gay troops in the US military has been compared to racial integration of the military from the very beginning. The arguments against repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell of that mention unit cohesion and effects on combat readiness are almost eerily similar to those used to oppose racial integration. When it seems that history is repeating itself, how much can we say that civil rights have actually evolved?
